Introduction

   In our laboratory, we are pursuing the historical study of all human activities which relate to medical affairs. Our laboratory is situated close to the active medical field and we always have sincere interests in current medical topics.
   There is only one assistant professor in our laboratory, but many researchers and graduate students gather to perform collaborative research.
   And as the core office of the Japan Society of Medical History, we have been playing an important role in the study of medical history in Japan for many years.

History

History of the Laboratory of Medical History

In 1962, the Laboratory of Medical History was founded by Prof. Teizo OGAWA. Prof. OGAWA was responsible for reactivating the Japan Society of History of Medicine and the practice of the research of the medical history in Japan.
Prof. Shizu SAKAI succeeded his position and she took on active roles such as the modulator of the international congress of history of medicine from 1976 to 1998, the chairperson of the 100th Congress of the Japan Society of History of Medicine, the chairperson of the International Congress of Traditional Asian Medicine and the founder of the Asian Society for the History of Medicine.She is now a guest professor of our laboratory.
