The Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of this University is one of the busiest departments in doing clinical services, under- and post-graduate education, and research activities. At the University Hospital in the main campus located in Hongo, Tokyo, more than 30,000 sick children visit the outpatient clinic and approximately 1,000 patients are admitted to the pediatric ward, where there are 100 beds (including 6 beds for NICU) which are sharing with Dept. of Pediatric Surgery, in a year. In the department there are subspecialty groups such as, gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, endocrinology and metabolism, cardiology, hematology and oncology, neurology, neonatology, nephrology and urology, immunology and allergy, and psychiatry. These groups come from a wide range of pediatric clinical fields to provide the best feasible care for sick children and to improve the quality of child health, in response to increasing social demands. In addition, there is excellent interdepartmental collaboration with the departments of pediatric surgery, obstetrics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and ENT for managing a full range of children's diseases.
Each subspecialty group has a research team to carry out basic and clinical research actively.
 Our current research interests are as follows:
1) Etiologic Study of Kawasaki Disease;
2) Development of Gut Immunology;
3) Effect of Probiotics in Infection, Allergy and Chronic Inflammatory Diseases
4) Nutritional Management of Low Birth Weight Infants and Growth Failure;
5) Prevention of Arteriosclerosis from Childhood;
6) Molecular Approaches to Bone Metabolism;
7) Interventional Catheterization;
8) Pathogenesis of Cardiomyopathy;
9) Biology of Neuroblastoma;
10) Bone marrow transplantation;
11) Prenatal Management of Congenital Anomalies;
12) Electro-encephalographic Analysis of Epilepsy;
13) Prevention and Treatment of Reflux Nephropathy;
14) Experimental Studies on the Mechanism of Food Allergy;
