Message from the CEO

小川理事長写真(W181)

The challenges of the world require an effective education and practical expertise.

Juntendo University CEO
Hideoki OGAWA
Juntendo University, originally founded in the ninth year of Tenpo (1838) during the late Edo period, is the oldest educational facility for Western medicine in Japan. Over the years, we have worked hard to cultivate in our students skills in medicine, nursing, and sports, contributing to the health and well-being of Japan and beyond.

Now, however, as nations develop and the world’s population increases, the demand for highly-skilled individuals who possess a wide range of knowledge and an open mind is greater than ever.

To meet this demand, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of our university in April 2015, we launched the Faculty of International Liberal Arts.

With this new faculty, we seek to cultivate educated individuals who can be successful active participants in the global community while preserving our commitment to jin, the spirit of benevolence which has guided our institution over its long history.

A university that meets the aspirations of its students in modern society

Juntendo University President
Hajime ARAI
Although Juntendo recently celebrated its 175th anniversary, it is important to note how this university has evolved from its early days during the Edo period up to our modern times, continually re-setting the bar of excellence in medicine. Indeed it is this ability to adapt that has been a constant feature of Juntendo.

In April of 2015, in order to help prepare the next generation to meet the demands of a globalized society, Juntendo opened its Faculty of International Liberal Arts, bringing Juntendo to a total of five faculties, three graduate schools, and six hospitals. At present, in terms of education, research and medicine, we are at the forefront in Japan.
