Introduction

 The Hospital Administration is a multidisciplinary academic frameworks encompassing medicine, public health, nursing science, economics, business study, jurisprudence, sociology, social welfare, psychology, industrial engineering, statistics and architecture. And it puts the basis in the management science of healthcare field.

 The Department are conducting administrative assitance of Juntendo Universiry Hospitals, and research and education of hospital administration, medical economy, medical information, medical laws, and the main practical research is on the evaluation of the medical qualities.

 The Department was founded by the late Professor Dr Hiroshi Moriya at 1962, one of the pioneers in this socio-medical field in Japan, and it belongs to the Clinical System of Juntendo University School of Medicine. At 1972 Dr Moriya was succeeded by the late Profssor Dr Sukeyuki Kawakita, and Dr Kawakita was succeeeded by Professor Dr Hisamasa Imai at 1994. Dr Imai was succeeded by Assistant Professor Dr Xuekun Yang at 2001. Now the Department also belongs to the Environment and Human Area of Juntendo University Graduate School of Medicine.

Current topics and interests are as follows

  1. On autopsy rate of the hospitalization death patient, which is one of the examination items of the special functioning hospital in Japan, hospitalized patient number of death and autopsy number of the special functioning hospitals and the nationally designated teaching hospitals are totaled, following 3 Juntendo University Hospitals, every year, and cause unfolding and countermeasure of the autopsy rate lowering are examined.
  2. By doing patient satisfaction questionnaire survey of the Juntendo University Hospital, the result is analyzed, and remedy in the hospital side and evaluation system of the patient satisfaction investigation is examined.
  3. By applying focus on the average lengh of stay which is one of the fundamental indexes of the hospital treatment offer system in this University Hospital, the data are collected and analysed, and the relation between shortening of the average length of stay and more efficient use of the medical resources is examined.
  4. In this Uiversity Hspital which introduced Diagnisis Procedure Combination (DPC) at 2003, differnce by transition of the average length of stay around the introduction and its influence on the sex and age group difference are examined.
  5. Comparison in the evaluation of the medical quality, method and results, between China (special hospitals) and Japan is under examination.
