Juntendo University, Tokyo, established in 1838.

 Department of Organ and Cell Physiology is currently chaired by Prof. Takao Okada, M.D., Ph.D. and offers Doctoral (Ph.D.) course in the field of cardiovascular physiology. We employ patch clump technique, fluorescent microscopy, Langendorff-perfusion of the hearts and vascular tone study etc. to pursue the understanding of complex function of human body by integrating the findings in molecular, cellular and organ levels. We also collaborate with some clinical departments, departments of School of Health and Sports Science and with other faculties in our university.

 The Department of Organ and Cell Physiology was founded on the base of Department of Physiology, Juntendo University which was established in 1956. The department has been chaired by the late Prof. Hidenobu Mashima, Prof. Rikuo Ochi and now Prof Takao Okada, and we celebrated 50th anniversary in the year 2005.

 We have been accepted many foreign students as well as students from our country. We will welcome any applicants who have earnest devotion to one's research, because our department policy is, irrespective of nationality and gender, to study in most friendly atmosphere.

 Experimental research is our main work. Research theme, including electrophysiology of myocardial cells, intracellular Ca2+ dynamics, cardiovascular pathophysiology, exercise physiology or vascular physiology, will be decided through discussion between students and teaching staffs. We have research meeting once a week where a student or a staff presents his or her recent progress, discussing the strategy for following research. Presenting a paper at scientific meetings, such as annual meeting of Japan Physiological Society, is highly encouraged. Attending to various lectures and seminars is also encouraged in order to widen one's knowledge in the field of medical sciences.
