International Student and Researcher Event

Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) and Juntendo University international students, researchers, and faculty celebrated the Setsubun, the day before spring, at TMDU on February 3, 2016. Everyone in attendance had the chance to make an ehomaki, a Japanese sushi roll, traditionally eaten on setsubun as a sign of good luck and go to Kanda Shrine to experience a mamemaki, another custom thought to bring good luck. The custom involves throwing roasted soybeans, which symbolize the bad omens of the previous year, out of a window, while wishing for good luck in the upcoming year. Juntendo University President KOMINAMI Eiki and TMDU Executive Director TAGAMI Junji provided the events opening remarks.
