Philosophy of Juntendo University Hospital

We respect human life with the spirit of following the path of heaven and conforming to natural providence and protecting the human dignity and rights of all people. Further, in the spirit of constant advancement, we strive to pursue creative reform while educating medical professionals and providing the best medical care possible.

Introduction to the Department of International Healthcare

At Juntendo University Hospital we respond to inquiries and accept patients from other countries who desire medical consultation, as well as support foreign nationals living in Japan when they require medical care. We also have cooperative medical relationships with hospitals in other countries. To enhance these systems, we started the Department of International Healthcare on July 1, 2018.

The medical needs of international patients are growing, as the number of foreign people living in Japan or visiting Japan on travel or business has been increasing annually. The number of patients who come to Japan seeking advanced medical care has also been increasing in recent years. While language, culture, religion, lifestyles, and medical systems may differ, our goal is to incorporate international patients into our system as smoothly as possible.

Juntendo University Hospital actively accepts international patients. On July 1, 2018 we started the Department of International Healthcare to respond to the growing number of inquiries from international patients and medical coordinators regarding medical consultations; we have been making great efforts to properly respond to these patients’ individual needs in the context of their specific health condition as well as length of stay in Japan. We also have affiliations with hospitals in many countries around the world and would like to deepen this cooperation to further facilitate smooth patient referrals and hospital transfers.

We are dedicated to providing high quality medical care designed for an era where people move between national borders.

Notes

Juntendo University Hospital is a “Special Functioning Hospital” certified by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. As a general rule, patients are asked to bring a patient referral document (letter of referral) and health examination data (including previously recommending treatments and test results) from a referring medical institution. Patients who do not have letter of referral will be charged an additional consultation fee of 8,250 yen (tax included) at the first visit. We ask that patients have their letter of referral translated into Japanese or English.

Starting on April 1, 2018, international patients who do not have Japanese public health insurance will be charged at a rate of 30 yen per medical remuneration point (all patients, both foreign and Japanese, with Japanese public health insurance are charged 10 yen per medical remuneration point).

Patients who do not speak Japanese should always visit the hospital together with a medical interpreter. Juntendo University Hospital does not currently provide face-to-face or telephone interpretation services. We ask for your understanding in advance.
