In Japan, all the nuclear facilities, including tracer level research laboratory of radioisotopes, are subjected by strict legal regulations. These regulations are based on the "Law concerning the prevention to radiation hazards due to radio isotopes, etc". The goal of Radiation Safety is to ensure the radiation exposure of all faculty, students, investigators, staffs, and visitors is reduced to the level, which is as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Further important point is that the object of radiation safety is not only for the individuals who work with radioactive nuclide (ionizing radiation), but for the general public.
The outline of Radiation Safety and Security (RSS)

- Measurement of working environment
- Measurement of personal exposure
- Education and training for radiation worker
- Recording
Related to the use of RI, the storage of RI, the disposal RI, the education and training, the inspection of radiation facilities, etc.

Staff
- Chief:
- Kouji MURAKAMI
- Assistant Chief:
- Keiichi MATSUNAMI(Radiation Protection Supervisor)
Registration guide
To use radioisotopes, you must complete the radiation safety training and the medical checkup. The training program is provided several times a year. Especially for inexperienced radiation workers, items to be taught and required hours are clearly established as shown below.
Required items and hours of education and training

Items | Hours |
---|---|
Effect of radiation on the body | 0.5 |
Safe handling of radioisotopes | 4 |
The laws concerning prevention of radiation hazards | 1 |
Radiation protection rules of Juntendo University | 0.5 |
These are minimum requirements.
In case you have already finished the education and training in any other radiation facilities, you can skip some of items upon your request. For more information, please contact the Radiation Safety Officer.Links
