Lab introduction

We aim to elucidate the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease by analyzing the function of the genes responsible for hereditary Parkinson's disease and the properties of mutated gene products. We are studying gene functions at the molecular level by combining mouse, Drosophila models in which mutations in the Parkinson's disease-causing gene have been introduced, and iPS cells and clinical samples provided by Parkinson's disease patients. The research results obtained here will be used to develop and propose new treatment and prevention methods for Parkinson's disease.

Brain Aging

With the aging of the brain, neuronal cell death is gradually occurring in every person. Brain aging is also an important risk factor for senile neurodegenerative diseases. Our group (pictured below) aims to elucidate how brain aging occurs, including how it occurs at the molecular level. These results will be useful for investigating the causes of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, where genetic factors are unknown and account for the majority of diseases.
