�@On June 1 1984, Department of Immunology was the form of Department of Tissue culture and launched with Dr. Ko OKUMURA, a full-time professor, and three assistants. Adding several graduate students, research students, and research apparatus for the cellular immunology and molecular genetic, the research of molecular immunology has been done. The members gradually increased during substitution of stuffs and research student was repeated. As of 2005, the seven staff including a professor, eight graduate students, two secretary, and about 20 research students are on the register.

�@In the Department of Immunology, the immune responses in a living body were analyzed with the molecular level, many gene of the immunity response related molecule were identified and analyzed these function in vitro and in vitro. Now, various medical and biological researches which "immunology" is widely included are done.
The research students with various backgrounds who belongs to the Department of Immunology is graduation of medical, dentistry, pharmacy, science, agricultural, technology, and more, and carry out the researches around-the-clock.
�@Moreover, not only the conventional fundamental research but the applications to clinical medicine are also considered. As the result, the mechanism of crisis or pathology and the development of cure and diagnostic method in immunity abnormal, transplantation immunity, tumor immunity, AIDS, allergy, and etc. or pathology, a cure, and a diagnostic method are also done.
�@Specifically, the neutralization antibodies to functionally important molecules on lymphocytes and other hematopoietic cells are produced and the medical treatment experiment using an AIDS model animal, an autoimmune disease, the organ transplant are conducted. Moreover, the basic experiment of the cancer therapy that introduced into the cell the various genes induced to activation of a lymphocyte and enhanced the immunity to a tumor is also conducted.
�@Furthermore, elucidation of the mechanism of an allergy disease and the research of a therapy with the gene cloning of an important intracellular signal and cell surface molecule for an allergic reaction are also done.
�@In which field, closely exchange the persons and materials for the experiments with the overseas laboratory, is performed the international achievements.
