General Information for International Patients

Attention

  • In principle, patients who cannot speak Japanese should always come to the hospital with their own medical interpreter. Interpretation services are not provided in our clinical and laboratory departments. (We have English-speaking doctors at several outpatient clinics who can provide acute care evaluation to English-speaking patients without interpreter. Please contact Department of International Healthcare for a consultation.)
English-speaking doctors are available at General Medicine Clinic from 8:30am to 3pm, Monday through Friday for acute care evaluation and treatment. Please refer to “Guide for International Outpatients” for detailed information.

  • Please translate all documents to be submitted to the hospital into Japanese or English.

  • If you are submitting digital images on a CD-ROM from a foreign hospital to Juntendo University Hospital, be sure to save them in the DICOM format. Data in other formats cannot be uploaded into our system.

  • When visiting the hospital be sure to bring your passport for personal identification. Residents of Japan are NOT required to carry or present their passports. Instead, please bring your residence identification card and your Japanese public healthcare insurance card if available.

  • In the outpatient clinics, there may be times when an examination on the same day is not possible depending on the disease or condition. Also, unless you have made an appointment directly with the doctor in advance, you may not be able to see the doctor to whom your letter of referral is specifically addressed. You will be seen by the doctor who is in charge of first visits on that day.

  • Eating and drinking are prohibited on all outpatient floors. Food and drink are available in the Hill Top restaurant on the 1st floor of Building 1, Starbucks café at the hospital main entrance, and Lawson convenience stores located both on the ground floor of Building C, as well as on the 1st floor of Building B. We ask that you use the spaces available at these locations.

  • Space in the outpatient waiting areas is limited. We ask that patients come only with a medical interpreter. If a family member or friend would like to accompany you, please bring only one person.

  • Please wait quietly in the waiting area until are seen. Please set mobile phones to silent mode, and refrain from talking on the phone except in designated areas (phone areas).

  • Smoking is prohibited anywhere on the hospital grounds as well as in surrounding areas.

  • Photos and Video are prohibited anywhere on the hospital grounds.

The entire staff of Juntendo University Hospital strives to provide safe and advanced medical care to patients. We ask for your understanding and cooperation.
